Hello,

I'm Mathew. I'm a Clinical Psychologist and I enjoy helping people explore their difficulties and pursue meaningful changes in their lives.

Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or if you’ve done this before, the process can feel overwhelming. But by being here, you’ve taken an important step forward. Therapy involves a unique level of emotional intimacy, where you’ll share things you may have never shared with anyone else. But before you do, I think there are some things you might want to learn about me and how I work. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope we’ll be a good fit.

  • "Words have a magical power. They can bring either the greatest happiness or deepest despair; they can transfer knowledge from teacher to student; words enable the orator to sway his audience and dictate its decisions. Words are capable of arousing the strongest emotions and prompting all men's actions." - Sigmund Freud

About me

I'm interested in all aspects of the human condition, including personality and identity development, emotions and conflict, life purpose and mortality, and broadly, the ways in which we perceive and relate to ourselves, others, and the world.

I offer in-depth therapy and have extensive clinical experience working with people affected by all elements of the human condition. I often see people presenting with issues such as anxiety, depression, burnout, self-confidence, trauma, grief, and adjustment to major life changes. I previously served as the Clinical Director for a large psychology clinic in the Northern Sydney region before moving over to working within this smaller boutique practice.

I aim to spend our first few sessions together taking the time to gain a detailed understanding of you and your life circumstances in order to provide therapy that is uniquely tailored to you. I believe that therapy works in different ways for different people, and we will together work to understand what approach might work best for you.

Irrespective of our specific approach, more broadly I wish to provide a safe space to heal and evolve on your own terms, while also balancing this with structure and accountability.

I work from an eclectic approach that that integrates a variety of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Schema Therapy. In more accessible terms, my approach can be represented by the philosophies of minds such as Gabor Mate, "We may not be responsible for the world that created our minds, but we can take responsibility for the mind with which we create our world.", as well as Carl Rogers "The good life is a process, not a state of

“WE MAY NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORLD THAT CREATED OUR MINDS, BUT WE CAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MIND WITH WHICH WE CREATE OUR WORLD.”

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.

— CARL ROGERS
