SELF-ESTEEM & BODY IMAGE

Many people find themselves worrying about their weight and shape but for some, these concerns can begin to consume them and significantly impact their ability to live a balanced life. They might feel insecure in their bodies, find themselves always thinking about food, and begin to engage in unhelpful eating behaviours. If left untreated, these problems can in some cases become life threatening.

Common types of eating and body image problems include:

  • Anorexia Nervosa (restricting intake of food, which can lead to significantly low weight)

  • Bulimia Nervosa or Binge Eating Disorder (engaging in episodes of bingeing or out-of control eating, which may be followed by attempts to eliminate excess calories using unhelpful means like vomiting or excessive exercise)

  • Body Dysmorphia (being preoccupied with one or more real or perceived flaws related to your body)

Srishti Yadav has a particular interest in working with disordered eating and body image concerns. Srishti uses Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E) to manage these concerns. CBT-E is an effective, evidence-based treatment for eating disorders.
